The world’s hottest peppers is continuously changing, evolving, as the breeders breed the peppers for heat, and in fact they making them dangerous to handle.
It is a great deal for the producer of the pepper to have their chili measured highest in the scale of Scoville units. Many peppers have been in the competition for a long period and set out to be the hottest pepper in the world until a new one comes. So, these peppers come with certain precautions, as they can burn someone’s mouth or even their skin, owing to their level of spice.
The following is a list of hottest peppers in the world, which has peppers ranging from hot to extremely hot:
List of hottest peppers
1. Carolina Reaper 2,200,000 SHU
King of the list of hottest peppers
The first of our list of hottest peppers is the carolina reaper. In August 2013, after being announced as the fiercest pepper, ranked as #1 by the Guinness World Records, this pepper without a doubt, made daredevils jump out of their shoes.
Originally named as HP22BNH7, this pepper has the Scoville scale hotness to 2.2 million SHU (scoville heat unit) .It has been tested again in 2018, and, for this reason, is still to date the hottest, fiery pepper in the world. The breeder, Ed Currie, runs the Puckerbutt Pepper Company in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Carolina Reaper has an uncanny resemblance to the Ghost Pepper. It has a stinger tail and distinctive lobes, similar to the Ghost Pepper. Carolina reaper is pod-shaped and has a scorpion’s tail; mostly peppers have gnarly bumps all over, while some of them have a smooth texture.
The carolina comes in red, chocolate and peach color and has a sweet and fruity taste until the unforgiving heat kicks in. One Carolina Reaper is enough to fire up a hundred dishes.
2. Trinidad Moruga Scorpion 2,000,000 SHU
One legend in the list of hottest peppers
Here we have the legendary Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, bred by Wahid Ogeer of Trinidad, this flaming hot pepper is a native to the Moruga district in Trinidad and Tobago, and still one of my prefered peppers.
The New Mexico State University’s Chili Pepper Institute measured its spiciness between 1,200,000 – 2,000,000 scoville heat unit, held the world record since February 2012.
Aside from making your taste buds ignite with its scorching heat, the blazing pepper has a light fruity flavor, which soon turns into a deadly sweet-hot combination.
3. 7 Pot Douglah 1,853,396 SHU
The first brown pepper in our list of hottest peppers
7 Pot Douglah is a rare pepper native of Trinidad, it is said that with one of these peppers you can cook seven pots of stew! 1,230.00 – 1,853,396 SHU is the degree of heat tested for this phenomenal pepper . 7 pot Douglah features include a pimply, rough surface that is green and then darkens to purple and brown shades.
Due to the genetic variability of the many products of searing Trinidad, there is consequently, some disparity in its appearance, size and shape. The fiery taste of this crazy hot pepper can even make Satan cry tears.
4. Dorset Naga 1,600,000 SHU
This pepper is a subspecies of the Naga Morich but a little more spicy, has dug its flags of hotness in the list of the hottest ever. SHUs rating ranges from 1,000,000-1,600,000 (1 Million-1.6 Million) which is proof of the scorching heat of this pepper.
Joy and Michael Michaud picked up the seeds of Naga Morich and cultivated its fine seeds, which as a result produced this piping hot pepper. It is 4-5cm long with a wrinkled texture and ripens from green to red in appearance.
The combination of its sizzling hot flavor and sweet aroma makes it an exceptional creation . Its flaming hot taste kicks in your mouth slowly and as the taste increases, the burning sensation and screams get louder.
The Dorset naga is very popular in Great Britain, it is important to handle it with care, as even the weakest of this pepper is extremely hot as the hottest peppers on the planet.
5. 7 Pot Primo (1,473,480 SHU)
Created by Troy Primeaux, (nickname Primo), a Louisiana grower who crossed the Naga Morich and Trinidad 7 Pot seeds around 2005 and has since developed them for 8 generations. The 7 Pot Primo can become very lumpy and crooked. It has a fruity and floral flavor but, of course it is also super “hot”.
6.Trinidad Scorpion Butch T (1,463,700 SHU)
Created by Butch Taylor of Zydeco Hot Sauce and grown by the Chilli Factory, Trinidad Scorpion Butch was previously classified as the hottest chili in the world But after that, in February 2012 it lost the guinnes title.
7. Naga Viper 1,382,000 SHU
Basically One of my favorites on the list of hottest peppers. The Naga Viper chili variety was created in England by grower Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company, based in Cark-in-Cartmel . It was the “Spiciest Chili Pepper in the World” in 2011, but only for a period, according to Guinness World Records. Naga viper is a hybrid produced by Naga Morich, Bhut Jolokia and Trinidad Scorpion.
8. 7 Pot Brain Strain 1,350,000 SHU
7-pot brain strain is a variety of seven pot peppers, which are famous for their scorching hotness. It is a fierce chili, showing no mercy to the one who tastes it with SHUs ranging between 1,000,000-1,350,000 (1 Million-1.35 Million). As a result one of the hottest peppers.
David Cappiello is the man behind the cultivation of this savage pepper. Its name defines its texture, which vaguely resembles a human brain, but less intelligent LOL. The 7-pot brain strain plants’ height varies from 3-4 feet and its color deviates from green to red.
7 pot flavor is flamingly hot with a pinch of fruitiness. It has an internal membrane, where the scalding chili dwells. The term “7 pots” tells us that one pepper is enough to light up 7-pots of food with spices. for that reason great care is necessary with this pepper or its ultra-hotness can mess up your body.
9. Bhut Jolokia (Ghost pepper) 1,000,000 SHU
This pepper has been named as the Ghost Pepper owing to its stealthy manner of heating your insides after consumption. The sizzling ghost pepper has been lurking around for centuries until recently it was introduced to the west. Where it gained its popularity.
Measuring up to 2.5-3.3 inches in length and coming in a variety of colors including red, yellow, white, chocolate, etc. It is cultivated in the Assam region and Nagaland of Bangladesh and northeastern India. But now thank to many grower is growing woldwide.
10.Red Savina Habanero 500,000 SHU
another great one to put on our list of hottest peppers in the world . Red Savina Habanero is the spicy brother of Habanero, world record for the hottest from 1994 to 2006. The red, sultry devil can burn any taste bud with its +500,000 SHU, so make thi pepper the hottest habanero . Its red color defines how dangerous and fiery this pepper could be.
Frank Garcia and his company GNS Spices found this red Picante blossoming in their typical orange habanero field. He noticed that the plant had wider and hotter pods. The pepper has a sweet and pungent taste. So small amount of this extreme pepper is enough to smolder your food.
